Five of the Best: Anastacia

Anastacia burst onto the music scene in 2000 with her global smash hit I’m Outta Love. Fifteen years later, the singer songwriter with the unmistakable voice is still a force to be reckoned with.

With loads of brilliant, funky hits under her belt Anastacia is ready to rock New Zealand on her Resurrection tour which is coming to our shores in April. You do not want to miss this powerhouse singer when she appears at the ASB Theatre on April 26. Click here to purchase tickets now. To celebrate Anastacia’s impending arrival, we have selected her for this edition of Five of the Best and we are counting down her top five best hits! We hope you enjoy the list that we have compiled.

5. Sick and Tired

Anastacia’s self-titled album was released in 2004 and Sick and Tired was the album’s second single. The track has a more R&B feel than some of Anastacia’s more funky, soulful work, but her trademark powerful voice is still extremely recognisable. The song was a top 10 hit in many countries and remains a great song to this day. The track is unmistakeably Anastacia and a fine example of her work. We hope you enjoy it.

4. Not That Kind

Not That Kind was the title single from Anastacia’s 2000 album of the same name and was the follow up to her worldwide smash hit, I’m Outta Love. While not as commercially successful as its predecessor – then again, how many people can follow that song? – Not That Kind is a really great track. Not That Kind is a lot slower and sexier than some of Anastacia’s other songs, but it still has the strong, deep vocals and a very funky, soulful feel.

3. One Day In Your Life

One Day in Your Life was the second single from Anastacia’s second album, Freak of Nature. The song was huge on dance charts and is a very upbeat, fun disco song with a heavy funk vibe. There are parts of One Day in Your Life that are quintessentially Anastacia; most notably epic, soaring vocals and a music clip that has a very healthy dose of Anastacia’s famous abs. The song is a great example of Anastacia’s incredible voice and strength as a performer – see below for a closer look.

2. Left Outside Alone

Left Outside Alone was the debut single off Anastacia’s 2004 album, Anastacia, and detailed the singer’s estrangement from her father. Written by Anastacia – alongside Dallas Austin and Glenn Ballard – the song is deeply personal but powerful. The song was both commercially and critically acclaimed and was a top 10 hit in 13 countries and in addition to reaching number 1 in Australia, Austria, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Interestingly, Anastacia featured a stripped back ballad version of the song titled Left Outside Alone Part 2 on her Resurrection album, which was released in 2014. While the lyrics are the same, the piano ballad has a different melody and gives the song a completely different sound. As good as the re-worked track is we love the original, which we have ready for you to watch below.

1. I’m Outta Love

I’m Outta Love is the sort of smash hit that some musicians work a lifetime for. But for Anastacia, this song was her debut single and the song that put her well and truly on the world stage as a performer. The  track, which was released in 2000, went straight to number 1 on the Australian music charts and was a top 10 hit in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. The track featured on Anastacia’s debut album, Not That Kind, and is the song that we think truly reflects her powerful, bold style as an artist. We hope you agree – enjoy the video below.
