Billy Crystal set to perform ‘sit down’ comedy in NZ

One of the world’s most popular and hilarious comedians, Billy Crystal, has announced he will perform ‘sit down’ comedy at at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre in July.

The American comedian and film and television star will sit down with Australian interviewer Andrew Denton when he tours New Zealand later this year. An Evening of Sit Down with Billy Crystal will also feature stand-up and retrospective flash backs.

It will be the first time Crystal has performed on stage in New Zealand and almost a decade since he performed his autobiographical stand-up show 700 Sundays around the world (if you haven’t seen it, you need to watch it immediately). Crystal rose to fame in the mid-1970s and forty years later he remains one of comedy’s most clever and sought-after performers.

He has hosted the Oscars countless times and has had incredibly successful stand-up tours. But Crystal is also remembered for his film and television work. He got his break on the TV show Soap and was also featured on many late night and talk shows such as Jay Leno and Saturday Night Live.

It was not long until Crystal turned to films. One of his most prominent roles was alongside Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Other memorable film roles include parts in The Princess Bride, City Slickers, Forget Paris, Analyze This and Analyze That, America’s Sweethearts and Mr. Saturday Night.

And who could forget Crystal and his pitch-perfect performance as the voice of Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc.

The upcoming tour featuring Crystal and one of Australia’s most prominent interviewers, Andrew Denton, promises to be absolutely phenomenal. Billy Crystal is the sort of person who should be on everyone’s bucket list. If you are yet to see him live, it is time to change that.

And to get you in the mood to see Crystal, we have five examples of his work that are sure to have you laughing in the aisles. Enjoy!

An Evening of Sit Down with Billy Crystal – hosted by Andrew Denton will be performed at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre on July 4 and 5.
