REVIEW : Carousel & Clothesline

Much praise is in order for the troupe of seven consisting of Yannick Blackburn, Fanny Laneuville, Jason Fergusson, Phillippe Thibaudeau, Coen Clarke, Emmaline Piatt and Jonathon Roitman. Brought to us by the alumni of the renowned Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize, the troupe performed and will to continue performing breathtaking acrobatic feats at the Auckland Herald theatre till April 12th followed by TSB Showplace in New Plymouth on the 19th and Civic Theatre Rotorua on the 24th.

The hour long show was a marriage of slapstick and acrobatic skill that from juggling and balance bar through to trapeze and contortion left the audience at the edge of their seats. Inspired by the everyday lives of circus performers, Carousel & Clothesline took us deep in to the world of travelling circus acts, with a comical twist. The highlight for me was Emmaline Piatt who with skill, amazed the audience with her “cloud swing,” popularized through her Cirque du Soleil shows.  Another highlight of the show was the acrobatic performance to “You Sexy Thing,” by Tom Jones which sure got the ladies swaying in their seats.

It is important to note that the show performance was meant to be shown in slapdash light, this is no posh and slick rendition of Cirque du Soleil and we loved that. Clown, MC, singer Philppe Thibaudeau was the glue that brought the show together, providing us with song and comedic relief, he added charm and great interaction with the audience throughout the show. He was also taking no nonsense from the audience, staying in character while shushing a few audience members by telling them the signing of his autographs for his fan club would be after the show. A class act!

Members of the audience described the show as “absolutely perfect,” and the interactive performers did not end their professionalism on stage choosing to come out for a meet and greet with the audience after the show which was a delight to all.

This thoroughly recommended show with its appealing cast is well worth you taking some time away from the hustle and bustle for a lovely evening.

Kudos team, you were a delight to all! A+
