Madonna has been rumoured to perform on our shores for many years and the wait is finally over. Excitement for the Material Girl’s upcoming tour is at fever pitch and demand for tickets is expected to be enormous!

Madonna is an icon in the music industry. She burst onto the world stage in 1983 with the release of her self-titled album, which sold more than 10 million copies around the world. The album included three of Madonna’s biggest hits, which were Lucky Star, Holiday and Borderline.

Madonna’s next two albums – Like a Virgin and True Blue – both sold in excess of 25 million copies each confirming her place as one of the most successful and popular entertainers of all time.

But each of those albums was overshadowed by the enormous success of Madonna’s 1990 album, The Immaculate Collection, which was her first ‘best of’ album. It sold more than 30 million copies and was a worldwide smash hit. The album featured many of Madonna’s biggest hits – Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Vogue, Papa Don’t Preach and Into the Groove – and also featured two new songs, Justify My Love and Rescue Me.

Madonna has an insane back catalogue. As well as huge pop hits, she also contributed songs to various soundtracks including Evita, a film that starred Madonna in the lead role. One of the singles from that album, You Must Love Me, won the 1996 Academy Award for Best Song.

When Madonna first burst onto the scene, she was as well known for her controversial style and symbolism as she was for her break-through music. Her live shows are known for over-the-top theatrics and have to be seen to be believed. A Madonna performance is about so much more than just the amazing music; and that is a very big achievement given she is one of the greatest recording artists in history.
