Our Lorde

She requires no introduction. At just 17 years old, born and raised in Devonport, North Shore, Auckland. This New Zealand songstress formally known as Lorde continues to make her country proud.

Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor, known by her stage name Lorde, sat at the #1 spot on the US singles chart for nine weeks straight. She cleaned up at The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, Australia’s ARIAs and she is even rumoured to be in the running for a Grammy nod! The singer-songwriter shows no sign of slowing down. Her latest song Team was so in demand that it temporarily crashed both You Tube and Vevo simultaneously.

She continues to overthrow the manufactured, sex-up sound and image of the pop industry. Her music is simple and organic; driven by her powerful voice and lyrics that represent raw talent. Just look at her video for Royals compared with other pop videos. She isn’t living the glamorous celebrity lifestyle that is so often portrayed in the music industry. What stands out even more is her reliance on her raw talent and not an overly sexual image. Lorde has not shot to fame through scandal or outrage, yet pure raw talent. That is the reason she’s New Zealand’s royalty.

It seems quite clear that Lorde will be the ruler of the music industry for quite some time.
