What’s on at the ASB Theatre

Over the coming months the ASB Theatre is proving its reputation as a versatile venue, hosting comedy, ballet, concerts, children’s shows and even a burlesque show!

The ASB Theatre at the Aotea Centre is a fantastic venue to see events of any kind. The intimate setting makes you feel like you are truly a part of the show and the convenient location in Auckland makes seeing a performance a piece of cake.

The Proclaimers

April 25 – 8pm

Would you walk 500 miles to see the Proclaimers live? Of course you would! But luckily you won’t need to because the Scottish twins are bringing their unique and brilliant music to ASB Theatre in April! Charlie and Craig are well known for their singing style and catchy tunes such as I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I’m On My Way, Letter From America and Sunshine on Leith (all sung in their thick Scottish accents of course!). Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of the most iconic bands of the 1980s and 90s perform live!

Hi-5 – House of Dreams

October 1 – 11am & 1.30pm

Legendary children’s entertainment group, Hi-5 is heading to New Zealand for a series of exciting performances that your children will love. The shows are full of songs, dancing, giggles and imagination. Kids are invited to join Hi-5 at a slumber party in their House of Dreams, but there will be little sleeping and loads of adventures.

Briefs

February 17-20 – various times

The hilarious burlesque – or boylesque as they say – show, Briefs, is described as Cirque Du Soleil meets Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Vivavcious host, Shivannah, takes the audience on a very memorable journey through tricks, acrobatics and an array of drag artistes. Briefs has left a trail of laughter from Brisbane to Berlin and the award-winning show is a certain party starter. This event is not for the faint-hearted and given there is nudity it is strictly restricted to people 16 years and over. If you love a laugh, don’t miss Briefs at ASB Theatre!

The Ten Tenors – The Power of Ten

May 18, 20 & 21 – 8pm

The Ten Tenors – yes, you read right, there’s 10 of them! – are an Australian music ensemble that are known for turning popular rock songs into soaring operatic arias. The insanely talented bunch of men perform songs by some unexpected artists such as Meatloaf, Queen, AC/DC, Aerosmith and Leonard Cohen. They have become well known throughout the world for their style of performance and have been lauded for their incredible talent and ability to entertain crowds. Royal NZ Ballet – Giselle

August 31-September 3 – various times

Royal New Zealand Ballet has performed Giselle in many countries around the world and they are now returning to delight local audiences with Artistic Director, Ethan Stiefel’s classic production. The story of Giselle is brought to life by the talented dancers, who are helped by the haunting music and stunning costumes. This is one performance you do not want to miss.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

March 24 – 8pm

Noel Gallagher – best known as one of the brothers in Oasis – is an uber talented singer, musician and songwriter. He returns to New Zealand with his band, The High Flying Birds, for one show at ASB Theatre on March 24. As the principal songwriter for Oasis, Gallagher is now an icon of the music industry and someone you should see perform live at least once in your life. As well as performing songs from the High Flying Birds’ 2011 album, recent set lists have included Oasis classics such as Don’t Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova. Sarah Millican

April 12-13 – 8pm

One of Britain’s funniest comedians is set to hit the stage for her brand new stand up show, Outside. Sarah Millican won the best newcomer award at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and since then she has been making audiences the world over laugh with delight at her witty and hilarious comedy. If you want to head Outside with Sarah Millican, get in quick! Tickets for her two shows at ASB Theatre are flying out the door.

Michael Jackson History

May 29 – 7pm

Fans of the King of Pop will love the Michael Jackson History show, which is as about as close as you can get to seeing the great man performing live. Few artists have had the impact on music and the entertainment industry that Michael Jackson did and his memory – and brilliant songs – come to life during this tribute act. With such phenomenal worldwide hits such as Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, Remember The Time, Bad and Black or White, Michael Jackson has a lasting legacy. Celebrate his amazing contribution to music at the History show.

The Rat Pack

August 4 – 8pm

Nothing says 1950s and 1960s cool like the legendary Rat Pack. Key members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr are celebrated in The Rat Pack show, which is coming to ASB Theatre on August 4. Singers Tim Beveridge, Tama Waipara and Esther Stephens effortlessly recreate the golden age of the rat pack era performing songs such as Mambo Italiano, I’ve Got You Under My Skin and That’s Amore. If you love music from the 50s and 60s, this show is perfect for you! Get along and enjoy the sounds of the Rat Pack.

Danny Bhoy – Please Untick This Box

February 26-28 & March 1 – 8pm

Danny Bhoy is one of the best known comedians in the world and he is certainly one of the funniest as well. The Scottish funny man is doing a series of performances of his new stand up show, Please Untick This Box, at ASB Theatre in February and March. Danny Bhoy’s musing on the absurdities of everyday life certainly appeal to New Zealanders and Australians; he has an enormous following in this part of the world and his shows are always guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
