In an absolute treat for New Zealand fans, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is set to perform the incredible score to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back alongside a live screening of the original film.

Taking you to a galaxy far, far away, the NZSO will be led by NZSO Associate Conductor Hamish McKeich, bringing John Williams’ Oscar-winning score to life.

The battle for the galaxy intensifies in this thrilling fifth episode of the unfolding saga. As Imperial Forces launch an all-out attack on the Rebel Alliance, Han Solo and Princess Leia flee to Cloud City where they are captured by Darth Vader.

There are a million reasons why many believe this is the best of the Star Wars films.

And it has a score to match. From the floating The Training of a Jedi Knight to Darth Vader’s instantly recognisable theme, The Imperial March – hear it all up close, in symphonic surround sound.

In an extra special treat, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will also be taking things back to the beginning – to the one that started it all – the OG that is A New Hope. Director George Lucas used ground-breaking yet simple top motion special effects to bring an entire galaxy to life – and kickstart a franchise that still, more than four decades later, is captivating the world.

It, of course, comes with another incredible Oscar-winning score from John Williams, that the NZSO will be bringing to life alongside all the film’s action.

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will perform The Empire Strikes Back live at TSB Arena Wellington on Sunday 28 April and Spark Arena, Auckland on Sunday 5 May 2019. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.co.nz. A New Hope Live will come to Spark Arena, Auckland on Saturday 4 May 2019. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.co.nz.
