The King and Queens

The King of industrial rock Trent Reznor has ended the Nine Inch Nails (NIN) hiatus and will be hitting our shores with Josh Homme’s Stoner Rock giants Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) for 2 very special shows this autumn. In a strictly double billed tour supported by Brody Dalle, they have decided to leave who takes the stage first to the flip of a coin. Queens heads, Nine Inch Nails tails.

These two rock juggernauts are both known for their outstanding live performances; NIN makes excellent use of lighting effects and huge L.E.D panels to turn their shows into full multimedia experiences. Their latest tour was no exception, utilising massive transparent screens to place the band inside their own music visualiser was like nothing seen before (Check this out). QOTSA take a more traditional approach to connect with the fans, front man Josh Homme’s slick stage persona, crowd interaction and flawless performances of their heavy, melodic tunes always have the audience thoroughly entranced.

The last time QOTSA came to our shores in 2011 they were good enough to meet the fans in a special event at Real Groovy and later performed an emphatic gig at the Logan Campbell centre leaving fans wanting more. While both bands have performed in New Zealand before, 2013 was the first new material either had released in five years. True to form Hesitation Marks by NIN and …Like Clockwork by QOTSA maintain each band’s reputation for consistently producing some of the best Rock music around with both albums obtaining Gold record certifications.

2014 looks to be a great year for fans of both bands with the one of the biggest and most well paired double bills to ever come to Australasia. Their show at Vector Arena on the 19th of March is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year and I can’t wait!
